September 2017 I moved some of my equipment from my studio in town to my home; basically because I had some space. It gave me the opportunity to record lots of new music as Modelbau and I started to experiment with longer pieces to be recorded in one go. It turned out that around 45 minutes was the maximum length to do a long piece, without re-setting the parameters, other than perhaps doing long drone pieces. 'Nightcrawlers' is perhaps the best long piece recorded since then, combining drones, animal sounds, field recordings and electronics. It combines the usual slow development that Modelbau is known for and going from frog recordings in the early part of the piece to birds towards the end, the piece reflects the changeover from night to day; or perhaps vice versa? 'Nightcrawlers' is almost a radiophonic soundscape in which animals tell the story.
